How Will You Make a Difference Today?
It can start small. What if you said hello to someone you pass during the day, picked up a piece of trash you see on the ground, take someone’s shopping cart back up the store when you see them finish loading their car, compliment someone, or any other small act of kindness? Something so simple can really have a significant impact. Make it part of who you are, not part of what you were told to do.
The ripple effect of what this will do for that person and all those who they encounter afterwards, can change the entire outcome of someone else’s day. In fact, it could continue on to positively impact more people than you could imagine. It all starts with you.
Your smile is the simplest, most significant impact on others. Use it often and use it to help lift the mood of another person. Even without a single word, you can change someone’s day for the better. I challenge you to find ways to genuinely use your smile to make a difference for others.
Remember, a smile might not always make another person smile, but a frown is guaranteed not to. Let’s do our best to lift the spirits of others and don’t stop doing it just because others don’t smile back. Think of it like sales. More often that not, in sales, you will have to talk with 20 or more people, just to get 1 sale to happen. It will sometimes be the same with a smile. Just don’t let the frowns break you. Be consistent and genuine and you will see the results.
Phone a friend. Checking in on someone at the most unexpected time, can help ensure that others feel appreciated and loved. Set a goal to contact one person each week, just randomly to check in on them. You might think to yourself, well planning doesn’t seem random. Well, for them it will be. Just saying hi and asking how someone is doing, can go a long way in lifting their spirits.
My tip is to make it different times and days of the week. Don’t set it like a daunting task. Just put a reminder in your phone for the start of each week, where you will pick a person and a day to call them and say “Hey, just want to see how you’ve been doing.”
